NEI Global Relocation treated attendees of our Talent Agility Symposium to an extraordinary opportunity to recharge their thinking about relocation. This year’s theme “Explore Your World”, with the emphasis on “your”, was designed to help participants develop successful strategies for their company’s talent mobility needs.
New this year were two pre-symposium workshops focusing on international assignment and domestic relocation fundamentals. A seasoned veteran in the relocation industry commented on the workshop she attended, “I really enjoyed this session, learned some new things to take away.”
The opening reception took place at the Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo—ranked #1 in the world by Trip Advisor! Our guests were invited to explore the zoo exhibits before the reception began at the Sea Turtle Café followed by a memorable tour of the Lied Jungle—America’s largest indoor rainforest. As participants moved into the Scott Aquarium, they were allowed to dine as sharks, turtles and other aquatic creatures swam overhead.
The Symposium started with a surprise presentation to American Crystal Sugar, a client that has been with NEI since its inception—for 30 years!
The remainder of the day was filled with educational sessions on a variety of topics, many of which were recorded for later replay.
Building on the success of our last Symposium, more round table discussions, expert panelists and topical conversations were incorporated into the program. As usual, the most engaging sessions were the afternoon round tables, where participants were allowed to select from two of five topics that most interested them. The highest ranked round tables covered the topics of Internship Programs and Gen Y: The New Relocatee.
At the close of the first day, guests joined NEI to celebrate 30 Years of Service Exceeding Expectations with a festive cocktail event and dinner that featured a top 100 music video countdown, a 1985 Trivia Contest complete with prizes, and a slide show featuring informational tidbits about each attending company.
Our final sessions, which included an interactive “Blending Cultures” workshop and “A View from the Top” panel discussion inspired attendees to see the world through a lens of cultural, working and generational differences.
In the Blending Cultures session, Laurette Bennhold-Samaan, Chief Operating Officer of Aperian Global, engaged the audience and demonstrated how we often miss what we are not expecting to see. Her insights on perceptions and communication differences led to comments such as “Wow!”, “Excellent presentation!”, “Take-aways perfect for internal culture represented by twelve countries in our U.S. plants”, and simply “Fantastic!”
The final session, A View from the Top, was led by Kate Dodge, President of NEI Global Relocation, featuring panelists Shawn O’Conner from Applied Materials, Sherrye Hutcherson from Union Pacific Railroad and Steven Zehr from Gavilon Group, LLC, from which we received comments such as “great and dynamic view” and “cool way to end the week”.
The overall results of the symposium received a 4.7 out of 5 possible points and judging from the comments—a very successful endeavor. One individual stated, “you’ve renewed my faith in the value of these types of events!”
Our thanks go out to all who attended and to those who shared their expertise. It is a huge time commitment on everyone’s part and we greatly appreciate the spirit of partnership that was exhibited!
